Watch out for Yale in 2012

Yale Men's Rugby had one of their tougher seasons in the Ivy Rugby Conference finishing 2-5 and losing a couple of close calls. The team, however, is talented, organized and primed for a quick rebound in 2012. The talented play is obvious in this well presented video.

BOULDER, Colo. – USA Rugby national team selectors have named the USA Rugby Men’s and Women’s College Sevens National Championship All-Tournament team. Dot Mittow of Princeton University selected.

Sophomores Dot Mittow and Morgan Arthur both scored and made the difference as Princeton defeated arch-rival Virginia to place third in the first-ever USA Rugby National 7s Championships.

PU defeats Indiana and Texas convincingly

Princeton Women scored four trys enroute to defeating Indiana University 20-1 in the first match of the first round of pool play in the first-ever USA Rugby 7s Collegiate Championships. The Tigers then put 32 points on the board against Texas to finish the day 2-0 setting up a quarter final match against Oregon State.

USA Rugby's first-ever National 7s Championships

For the first time in college rugby history, there will be a collegiate national sevens championship sponsored by USA Rugby this weekend. The Princeton women’s team was one of 11 teams chosen by a selection committee to travel to Texas A&M University to compete for the championship.

After its victory in this year’s USA Sevens College Rugby Championship and a perfect run through their Ivy Rugby XVs season, Dartmouth came into Saturday’s Ivy Sevens Championship at the Irish Culture Centre in Canton, MA with no small amount of expectation weighing down upon them. But despite getting the best shot from all their opponents, The Big Green proved more than up to the challenge winning all five of their matches and capturing the championship after a 40-14 win in the final.

A Snowy Ivy 7s Warmup

Yale University, New Haven, CT -- Brown University participated in a small warm-up 7’s event at Yale University to prepare the team for the Ivy 7’s Championship next weekend at the Irish Cultural Center in Canton MA. Eight teams participated in the event that was eventually cut short due to weather conditions. A winter storm hit New Haven at about noon causing a couple games to be canceled and no final to be played. Both Brown sides were able to get 3 games each.

A Yale Women's Rugby Team member explains why she plays rugby.

Founded in 1978, the Yale Women's Rugby Football Club is one of the oldest women's collegiate rugby teams in the nation. Yale Women are a competitive rugby team, playing against women's rugby teams at Ivy League schools in the Ivy Rugby Conference.

At Yale, Harvard, Princeton and Columbia, it was Rugby in the late 1870s

Much is written about the birth of American Football in the Ivy League in the 1870s, but it was not until 1880 that Walter Camp lobbied the Ivies and succeeded to change the game from 15-a-side to 11-a-side. If we read between the lines of this American Football article, it's rugby that was predominantly played in the second half of the 1870s and it was played at Yale, Harvard, Princeton and Columbia.
